Gets my goat
I cannot understand some people. They really have a problem. If you hate reading something so much, why make yourself read it? You already know it’ll upset you, but you insist on upsetting yourself and then making lots of noise about it - who’s the dumb one here?
Ever since some Malaysian bloggers were featured in two of the local dailies, a few of them have been receiving disparaging comments, hate mail, and become targets of mean posts from other Malaysian bloggers. Hey, give these guys a break.
There’s something about the Internet that brings out the worst in people. I remember being on a bulletin board (forum) years ago where some idiot came on and started throwing insults around. He said it didn’t matter because it was on the Internet. It’s as if he didn’t view the others on the receiving end as real people. But they are. And if you cut them, they bleed just the same.
You say there’s such a thing as “freedom of expression” and that it’s your blog and you’re entitled to write whatever you like there. I say bollocks. There’s such a thing as exercising your rights so as not to infringe on the rights of others. Every human being is entitled to be treated respectfully, especially if they are quietly minding their own business and have done or said nothing against you (or anyone close to you).
I have nothing against expressing opinions, but why is it so imperative to announce to the world that you think somebody’s blog is a bunch of rubbish or that some blogger hasn’t two brain cells to rub together? My mother used to drum into me, “If you don’t have anything good to say, say nothing.” Methinks your parents must’ve left out some important bits in your early childhood education.

good one. and i like the line about two brain cells to rub against each other. hahahaha

Unfortunately freedom of expression gives people freedom to express themselves for the asshats they really are.

Jayelle - thanks, just got so mad and couldn’t tahan.
Suanie - yup I just wish I could make some people SHUT UP but unfortunately they also have the right to say stupid things and reveal how truly dumb they are…
Kevin - I console myself by thinking that they are their own worst enemy. Right-thinking people will see through all the bluster and the posing.

Freedom of speech means the freedom of getting your face slapped around verbally for whatever you put out.
Which is why I’d like to be a complete and utter fascist with my blog comments. There’s no need to be pretending, children — a place of freedom of expression my blog is ain’t.
